New Scandi thriller's Irish connections

100 Code, the new Scandi-crime series created by Robert Moresco (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), has several strong Irish connections.

The series is loosely based on Ken Bruen's 2014 novel Merrick. Bruen also contributed the pilot episode as part of the writing team.

The Swedish-American production was largely shot in Stockholm. The series co-stars Michael Nyqvist (who also happened to be in Dublin last month filming John Moore's new thriller with Pierce Brosnan) and Dominic Monaghan.

While 100 Code has a mainly Swedish cast, young Irish stage and screen star Róisín Murphy (What Richard Did) is in eight episodes of the 12-part series.
Over the past 12 months six young women - all blonde and blue-eyed - have turned up dead in a field of asphodel flowers in Sweden.
NYPD Detective Conley (Monaghan) flies to Stockholm to observe and advise the local police. He is paired with Eklund (Nyqvist), a by-the-book Swedish cop with an aversion to American grab-and-go culture.

The investigation reveals not one serial killer but a complex network of ruthless murderers.
BBC4 is expected to screen a dubbed version of the series, which premiered last March on HBO Nordic (available only in Scandinavia). Production of a second season is due to start in November.

Update 6 January 2016: The series has been picked up by Sky Atlantic rather than the BBC.
